Dan Derringer Bio
Dan Derringer is what many call an adventurer. He has traveled the world riding motorcycles for nearly 30 years discovering what makes motorcycle enthusiasts most happy, “The Ride”. Dan’s first ride happened in 1960 in Indianapolis, Ind. His next door neighbor had purchased a mini bike from Montgomery Wards. Dan’s first riding memory was a wild one that lasted for about 60 feet when Dan discovered a “very bad way to stop a bike”…hitting the chain link fence.
His two wheeled career has taken a definite upswing since that exciting autumn day in Indy as he has owned roughly 200 motorcycles and explored the world. Derringer spent nearly 30 years traveling world-wide doing photography, sales, publishing, and writing to finance his riding hobby. He and lifelong traveling partner and wife of 35 years Cindy have in the past 5 years been able to do what they like best “motorcycle” full time. As the couples’ goal became more clear, Cindy’s successful insurance agency began focusing on motorcycles. Dan began earning his living as a motorcycle instructor at the MRA (Motorcycle Riders Association). Together with lots of help from their four daughters, two of which currently work in the family business, Dawn and Tammy, the Derringers have accomplished their life-long goal. They have been able to earn a living doing their hobby. Dan recently said, “If I retired tomorrow, I’d be spending my first day of retirement ‘hangin out with motorcycles’ and motorcycle folks”.
That’s exactly what Dan does on a daily basis. He spends his days either helping in the motorcycle insurance agency or on the range working with new riders. Derringer went on, “the excitement that new riders experience when they achieve their goal and learn to ride a motorcycle is very exciting”. He went on. “When a rider acquires the skills needed to ride safely, it’s a giant rush for everyone involved. The rider, his or her friends, the other students, and especially the rider coach gets a terrific feeling that they have some how been a part of an exciting event that empowers. I never get tired of that excitement.”
Derringer not only travels, rides, and runs a gear store, he also produces “Motorcycle TV “ Derringer said, “We are having a great time doing this TV production. It gives us another excuse to travel around the world riding and also gives us a vehicle to sell our motorcycle products. The TV program is very exciting and doing well”

When asked how he has been able to “live his hobby”. Derringer replied, “You just need the courage to work hard and have a great partner. I’ve been very lucky by finding my partner Cindy at a very young age. I also believe my daughters have been the best a guy could ever have hoped for. With five great women helping, I could do anything”. Derringer laughed, “I’ve been blessed with terrific daughters, a wonderful wife, and now I have discovered ‘a real bonus round’ grand kids. I just can’t figure out how to get all of these terrific people on the bike with me and Cindy.”
With Dan’s energy, vision and drive,
somehow he’ll figure it out.
